Contact lens Wearing Tips

Regardless the fact that you are wearing decorative or corrective contact lenses, some important care information and wearing tips should be taken in consideration. Please note to always wash your hands with a mild soap and dry them with a lint-free towel before touching your lenses as well as clean, rinse and disinfect your lenses each time you remove them.

Usually, the eye care professional gives out easy to follow instructions when prescribing your contact lens and their advice is good to follow. Handle the same lens first to avoid confusing the right and left lenses and keep all solution bottles closed when not in use.

Before removing your soft contact lens from the case shake gently to loosen the lens in case it is stuck. Then slide the lens out of the case into your palm. Rinse thoroughly with the appropriate contact lens solution. Place the lens on the tip of your index finger. With the fingers and thumb on your hand pull up on your eyelid and down on your lower eyelid, then place the lens on the white of your eye. Roll your eye then blink. Replace your lens case every three months and remove contacts before you go swimming.

If your soft contact lens is tinted with the lens on your fingertip look down and you should see the color tint along the edge. Some lenses have a laser marking with the company name and if you can read it properly the lens is in the correct position.

When removing your lenses look upwards and sideway and pull on the lower eyelid by using your finger to gently maneuver the lens on the white of your eye. Pinch carefully the lens together and lift f off your eye.

Women, contact lenses and make up are considered another big chapter in wearing tips manual, because the make up can stick to the lenses instead of flushing right out. Follow these tips to avoid mishaps:

  • Put in your contact lenses before applying makeup. Cream eye shadow is less likely to get in your eye than powder and if possible, choose water-based rather than oil-based creams. In case you prefer powder, keep your eyes closed during application, then brush off any excess powder before opening your eye.

  • Never apply eyeliner between your lashes and your eye. Apply it only on the portion of your lashes that is well away from your eye.

  • Before removing your eye makeup, wash and dry your hands then remove your contacts, being careful not to bump them into any makeup. Finally, do the finishing touches by using your eye makeup remover.
